5K Go Commando Race Re-Cap
You guys, I am SO not a runner… but, I’m trying so hard to be! I found this on Pinterest and thought it was appropriate.
But, on Saturday I ran and finished my first 5K race. This wasn’t just any race - this was an obstacle race. Thankfully for me it was not timed, it was just for fun race - which is about the only way I was willing to agree to it. 90 degree weather, 18 obstacles, and insanely steep hills didn’t stop us. We finished in about an hour.
Ellen decided we needed funny shirts - so she took it upon herself to create them - props to her for coming up with hilarious and slightly inappropriate things to write on the back of each one.
The backs of our shirts - I’ll let you decipher each one…
The FIRST person I saw aside from the girls I was running with was a FRIEND! Hi Lindsey! Seriously made my day!
One of the many obstacles (below) was walking across two logs and jumping into a foam pit… others were crawling under parachutes, over picnic tables, through rope tangly things (very scientific I know) jump over fire, run through sniper alley where you’re hit with kool aid water guns, down the water slide and through mud with barbed wire on top for the finale.
I thought that the obstacles would make the running parts easier because you would be able to catch your breath, but it actually made it harder. You had to use your arms for the obstacles, so you were worn out even more when you started running again. None of us had trained for hills - it was very steep and even when it wasn’t there were holes in the ground and things to trip over.
We finally made it to the finish line!
There was a tent type thing set up that was filled with bubbles! I think we sort of thought that this was going to get us clean… sadly, it did not. (This is easily my favorite picture of Erica!)
We then learned that the local fire department was hosing everyone down… take just like a SPLIT second to visualize. Yea, we were disappointed too…
Props to Nicole for running every minute of the race - only stopping for obstacles! I love this picture too. I was SO proud of us.
